I live in northern calif and we have had wind power for years, because of the save the birds people they only want us to use it during the winter not during the summer when we need the extra power,I dont want to kill a few birds, but it bets killing a lot of american soliders for oil over sea's
Save the birds...that is the lamest duck excuse to prevent innovation that I will ever hear in my lifetime.
How about save some deer? Have these "bird savers" ever driven on the interstate? It is lined with corpses. I don't see people saying we shouldn't drive.
I wonder what the mortality rate of birds is in the Netherlands?

Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) are safe for birds because the blades are not invisible to them. This man built a VAWT under his porch for pennies, practically:

We'll get over these problems as the price for energy increases. Just look how fast the population changed its mind over offshore drilling. When we hurt, we demand an immediate solution. Hopefully, we can implement these things in a thoughtful manner.
Tens of thousands of birds are killed every year by vehicles. I would guess that figure is much higher than that of windmills.
It may only be the type of wind turbine. Cali as per the norm was an early adopter. The whole bird kill issue started there with the high density of the wind farms. I had thought that higher wind turbines are more out of the way and more avoidable. It may be time to redeploy?
