However today I sent a letter to Boone asking for his help in locating a Commercial wind turbine for an Community College here in Oregon that trains students to become wind energy technicians...

This is the letter:

Dear Mr. Pickens,

I am the Second Congressional District chairperson for your group here in Oregon. I have a webpage based on using renewable energy resources for economic development for my area. A Community College here in Oregon has a program educating its students to be wind turbine technicians.. The turbine they have now is over 20 years old and outdated. Vestas has donated a hub to the college but they need to update the rest of the systems and have a small grant to help cover some costs of getting a newer machine.

They are looking for something that has perhaps been damaged somehow that might still be serviceable for their educational purposes that they could buy or that would be donated to them....

Kind of a long shot, but thought you might like to be involved in finding that turbine.. It would be some great publicity for the Pickens Plan if we could be of assistance.

Sincerely,

John R Cogar

If anyone here has any information about locating a turbine please contact me at jc@sustainablelakecountyoregon.com

Invitation to join the NW Renewable Energy Group
I have started a Regional group, welcoming comments, ideas, and suggestions for Renewable Energy in the NW Region. Including states from the Pacific, Cascade and Rocky Mountain areas. I realize that some of my Pickens Plan friends are outside this region, but you are always welcome to join and add your thoughts to the discussion. We should be looking at best available sources of energy in our region, and ways to improve the power grid to transfer energy from region to region as it is needed.

I am not only looking to build a wind system for my home but water as well as I have a reliable source of strong water current.

I want to build small turbines for my home, probably will use them to charge workshop power tools at first. I can't afford to invest in buying a system, just struggling to pay the bills. It would be nice to get 30% back on tax returns for money spent on systems though.

I have a small (very small) turbine it is a 300W I am going to add more of the same size to my system. My reason for using the smaller units is that I can add to my system at a lower cost per addition. I also have three 120W solar cells in my hybrid system. I charge 8 12V deep cycle batteries which power my corn stove and my L.E.D. lighting. Every time I make an addition it costs from $700 to $1000 so I don't need loans or grants. I have found the hydrid system to work well because I almost always am produceing power from one or the other. Everything I use in the system is 12V so I don't have to worry about my inverter shutting down. I do have an inverter and I use it to power the fridge in the summer when the corn stove isn't running.

Federal Stimulus Law May Get Small Wind Turbines Spinning:

World of Renewables, March 10, 2009

http://www.worldofrenewables.com/index.php?do=viewarticle&artid=3086&title=stimulus-may-get-small-wind-turbines-spinning

President Obama's $787 billion economic stimulus package provides a 30 percent investment tax credit to consumers who buy small wind turbines, which are typically used to help power homes or small businesses. In the right location, a 10-kilowatt turbine could supply the entire electricity needs of an average American household. The American Wind Energy Association predicts the federal subsidy could help the small-turbine market grow by 40 to 50 percent annually, a boost that would parallel the growth of the U.S. solar photovoltaic industry after a similar 2005 initiative. The United States is already the world's leading manufacturer of small-wind technologies, holding roughly two-thirds of the world's market share. Last year, American companies made 98 percent of the small wind turbines sold in the United States.

Dear Friends

I have a Plan

Im going to get a little personal about me with you.
I Just finished a Drywall & Paint Job and realized the awesome earning potential I have within my grasp If I had 10 or more people just like me we could increase profits 10 fold maybe more. Im not saying this to soloist anyone or sell anything this is just a possible solution to raise capital to advance our projects like Energy Bonds Green Jobs and promote the best of our best Ideas. For 30 years I have been meeting all my family needs within my means with just the help of my wife.
My thought is this lets all network with one another our jobs what we do best refering one another for work and taking 10% or what ever of the job refered and put 5% into a We the People Account & the other 5% to the one who refered the job.
Mr. Pickens has spent over 50 Million of his own Money, Tell me why we all can't pull together and do this. I think most of us here part of the 77 Million Baby Boomers, I have 10-15 years left in me to sucure our Grandkids Furture.

So what do you think ?
Am I Dreaming :o} Or can we or are we willing. The only Power the Government has over us is what We the people Give them.
I'm really afraid of what I'm seeing where they are going.

Here is a useful site for anyone interested in purchasing a residential wind power system. Professor Tyree would also like to receive information from current owners of wind power systems about their systems. He will be traveling to New Zealand and may have limited internet access until late March when he returns to Alberta.

Small Wind Information Exchange Program (SWIEP)

About SWIEP

SWIEP – Small Wind Information Exchange Program
An Educated Buyer is a Wise Buyer

PURPOSE: To serve as an information exchange program for owners of small wind turbines (residential size) & for people considering to be future owners of residential wind turbines. My wish is to provide a forum for current owners of wind turbines to share their experiences with their Wind Genie. Here are some suggestions of information that might be exchanged:
1. Did your installer provide you with an estimate of potential productivity (kWh/year) at your site? What were the predictions?
2. Did you measure kWh per year produced and did it meet expectations?
3. Are you satisfied with your unit, with the warranty service, and with the availability of service?
4. Did you encounter any unexpected problems such as with blade cracking or failure, with turbine failure, or with inverter problems?
I encourage participation because shared information will be of use to current and future owners. For my part, I will tabulate a summary of comments & data and post this on a University of Alberta web site ( http://www.ualberta.ca/~mtyree/SWIEP ). This site will also include independent test results about small wind turbines.

Other useful discussion groups I have seen and joined are:
awea-wind-home (American Wind Energy Association sponsored discussion group)
and wastewatts (An alternative energy and conservation discussion group)
But they are not specifically focused like SWIEP.

SWIEP was launched in March 2008 when an article about my new home appeared in Home Power Magazine ( www.HomePower.com ). My home derives 100% of its energy needs for heating, hot water, and all electrical appliances from the sun and wind. It is a cost effective home that burns NO fossil fuels and burns NO carbon from any source. It will save $165,000 in fuel costs over the next 20 years.
