Meeting Notes

Meeting Notes:
October 1st was the first meeting in Tucson for the Pickens Plan. Together we have started to gather our recourses to get the word out. Many of the meeting members volunteered to contact their friends and family who can help us push the plan. Ideas were discussed regarding some of the areas that we will be most effective.
Our projects include:
Contacting members of our sphere of influence to get them signed up. Bring any effective tactics in signing up new members to the next meeting. If it was really good let me know and I will spread the word sooner.
Contact will be made to local alternative energy companies to get their support and membership. Our goal is to have these people help to pay for any printed materials that we may use to recruit new members and get new pledges.
Contact will be made to alternative energy organizations to develop rapport that will help us be more effective when approaching the local representatives and new members. Backing from these organizations will provide us with some much needed momentum.
Contact will be made to the local universities and other high traffic areas to try and get a booth out in front of the people.
The meeting was productive and we have determined the date and time of the next meeting to be on November 12th at 7:00pm-8:00pm. The location of our second meeting is to be determined as is the agenda. In the meantime if any of the above projects interest you please contact me. I will get you in touch with others so that we do not duplicate our efforts. If you would like a project not listed above please let me know and I will provide you with smaller projects that will help push the Pickens Plan.

“Our goal is to get more members to motivate more people to contact local representatives.” Since this is our goal I have provided this website to get you started.

Hi NATE!

CAN YOU HELP?

I have found that petitions are the best way to spread the word AND sign up supporters.

Here is HOW TO TURN THE PLEDGE INTO A PETITION!

I find it easiest to take one pledge, cut off Boone's lines under the pledge and add a sheet of lined paper under the pledge instead. I put NAME - ADDRESS - EMAIL across the top and fill in the first line to set the format. Most are more willing to sign where others have already done so, rather than the single pledge at a time approach. Everyone understands a petition.
I ask if they would "sign this petition in support of T, Boone Pickens energy plan to get us off of foreign oil?" Hand them the clipboard so they can read it. I do not require the signers to give me their email if they are reticent - don't let that be a deal breaker - some just do not want to give it.

Check out the 100CLUB group page to see how others have accomplished the task. (it is the first goup on my page) When you send/fax in 100, let me know, we will gladlyinvite you to be a member of the 100CLUB. Your leadership on this will inspire thousands!

There are over 150 people in the pledge challenge that I know of right now. Surely, there are many more that I am unaware of, as it is in many greetings. Those 150 willl bring 15,000 new members. If each brings just 5 friends, these 150 will be responsible for 75,000 new members.

This is the approach that works best for me - I tried many. Hopefully, this will encourage you to take the challenge, too. CAN YOU HELP?

When will we ever have a golden opportunity like this again?

Hi Nate,

I'm creating a database of organizations I will contact to see who is on board with creating an alternative energy industry in the United States - a goal that Pickens Plan and We Can Solve It share. The difference between the two groups is that Pickens tends to focus on getting off of foreign oil whereas We Can Solve It is focused on getting off of fossil fuel altogether. Neither will happen unless people put pressure on their elected representatives to make the creation of an alternative energy industry a priority.

Once I put the list together, I will draft an email briefly explaining our goals. I will forward the text of the email to you for approval. I would like to keep things as simple and streamlined as possible so we can expedite moving forward with getting more people to the meeting next month.

I've put in a call to Bookman's to see if we can use their meeting room and am waiting to hear back. I'll let you know when I hear from them - I'm expecting a return call this afternoon.

All best,
Jennifer Powers-Murphy

hi nate...libbie here....just read last few entries and things are moving right along. congrats. again, a reminder that i will not be attending oct 1st mtg. with a history of marketing and lots of successful fund-raising under my belt, i would suggest that some "suit" in the group be willing to create a list of local corporations/small businesses that in the groups opinion might align themselves with our goals, then be willing to meet in person, establish rapport with ceo's/owners, get aggreements of support (we have to have a mission statement - same as pickens most likely) and have them onboard. what i have just outlined is the broad picture....there are many little efforts that need to come first. i would stay away from printing gobs of handouts .....need to stay "green". a "business card" representing the group, something that functions. a keeper in other words....and supports our goal.......CAPTURE ENERGY! should be able to get some good buzz lines or slogan from inside the push plan itself. anyway, just a few thoughts FYI. let me know if you want specifics.....got files of them. hope i can help. wish you well, Libbie

Bad news, I got word that Tucson is on hold indefinitely. We're a fast growing company and can only allocate so many resources to so many areas at a time, but things change rapidly, so hold tight. I'll keep you posted. Thank you for reaching out to me and being so pro-active. It will pay off for you, and I look forward to working together to bring solar to Tucson! Good luck in your new home...heck, I'll say it, Mazel Tov! Peace Cous.

Hi Nate,

Good job on focusing on the process...

Discussion of levels of involvement people are willing to do.
-Break up tasks to work on strengths.
-Develop plans to raise awareness.
-Pledges for energy independence
-Discuss volunteer ideas.
-Create structure to avoid duplication of efforts.
-Group think/meet new people for new ideas.
-Create resource lists
-Set up future meetings and optional phone lists
Teaming up is encouraged but not necessary; there are plenty of people who work just fine on their own without direction. Others become synergistic and can accomplish far more with teams.

This is the first step to effective organizational efficacy.

I will attend the October 1st meeting.

I would recommend that we decide on a message that we can "market" to others in So. AZ, including the process steps as tied to the Pickens Plan for energy independence efforts.

This can then be used is essence as a Press Release to attract wider community and business leaders support and engagement. Just some thoughts to consider.

Thanks for your continuting efforts!

Roger
