The following HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) is the embodiment of every HEV being manufactured today. IT CAN BE BUILT BETTER BY USING MORE KINETIC ENERGY. I have shown this but it isn’t being done.

The automobile manufacturers have the information - CHRYSLER ALREADY HAS THESE PATENTS. THEY REFERENCED ME AS PRIOR ART - (5,999,864 December 7, 1999), (6,073,712 June 13, 2000), (5,962,941 October 5, 1999), (5,884,390 March 23, 1999) AND 6,069,424.

Beginning in 1990 I have been referenced in two of Ford Motor Company’s patents, 1 of Honda's, 3 of GE's, and 14 of Daimler Chrysler's for an Energy Storage Apparatus.

I would like people to energetically, aggressively, nicely push the American Automobile manufacturers to build the HEV (hybrid electric vehicle). This vehicle will reduce consumption of any alternative energy and reduce carbon.

The HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) can use many alternative energies. It is the most flexible automobile available. It’s not being built to use the following with the exception of gasoline/diesel but it can be.

HEV – flex fuel,
HEV – hydrogen (water)
HEV – dirty hydrogen (NG)
HEV – NG
HEV – LNG
HEV – LPG
HEV - CNG
HEV - H2
HEV – E85
HEV – gasoline – not an alternative energy; however it is available. HEV = less consumption
HEV – diesel – not an alternative energy; however it is available. HEV = less consumption
HEV – solar? Future
HEV – plasma? Future
HEV – etc, etc, etc, etc, etc

The HEV – (plug in) can be used with any of the above. If the fuel is combustible it can be used. What the HEV allows is less consumption of any fuel used. None of the alternative energy fuels above are available in quantity. Demand is the problem if we want to wean ourselves off Middle Eastern oil.

The HEV is an EV a hybrid EV. Many people don’t think of it as being an electric vehicle.

The hybrid can be built to be as fast and sturdy as any sports car, SUV or Truck manufactured today. Eaton is currently building a truck for Fed X and others.

I added this to My Page as a reminder why I got involved beginning 1973 - 1978. My feelings remain the same.
In the comments below “The current activity in the Middle East may cause the death of thousands of our American youth.” was Iraq (1). We lost hundreds in Iraq (1) beginning Aug 2, 1990 in the Gulf War only nine months after this letter was written and subsequently thousands in 911 and Iraq (2). We do not want an Iran (1).

Stimulus Funding to Assist Eaton in Nation’s Largest Deployment of Commercial Hybrid Vehicles and Electrical Charging Infrastructure Support
August 12, 2009

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation ETN today announced its truck and electrical businesses will support a $45.4 million grant to produce plug-in hybrid electric power systems for 378 vehicles, the nation’s largest commercial hybrid deployment to date. The funding is part of the recently announced $2.4 billion in grants by the U.S. Department of Energy under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Eaton will work with grant recipient South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and other affiliates, including the Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI), Altec Industries, Compact Power Inc., Ford Motor Company and Southern California Edison, in the deployment of plug-in hybrid electric commercial vehicles to more than 50 utility and municipal fleets nationwide. Eaton will also provide infrastructure for the electrical charging of these vehicles.
“This funding is an important milestone in the advancement of plug-in hybrid vehicles, and Eaton is pleased to be a recipient,” said Alexander M. Cutler, Eaton chairman and chief executive officer. “By providing our sustainable, energy-saving technologies to power the vehicles as well as the electrical infrastructure support to help keep them running, we believe we can provide Eaton customers with the technology they need to move plug-in hybrids to the next level.”
The development and deployment of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and accompanying charging infrastructure will take place over 18 months. Vehicles will be evaluated over a two-year period.
“The production and demonstration of this fleet of vehicles is a significant step in driving PHEV technology beyond the personal transportation platform to a daily work application,” said Mark Duvall, director of Electric Transportation at EPRI. “This project leverages Eaton's current hybrid electric system and builds upon nearly three years of ongoing work by Eaton and EPRI to develop PHEV technology for commercial vehicles."
In the utility truck application, the plug-in hybrids will be based on the Ford F550 chassis and will have a total range of at least 300 miles. The system will provide fuel economy improvement of up to 70 percent when compared to a standard utility vehicle, with similar reductions in emissions and noise. The entire system can be recharged by plugging it into a standard 120- or 240-volt electrical outlet. In addition, the trucks will be capable of powering auxiliary equipment and tools while stopped at a worksite.
An important element in the adoption of these vehicles is the electrical infrastructure for plug-in charging. As a leader in electrical technology, Eaton will work with EPRI to develop plug-in station technology for use by utilities and other customers across the country.
In addition to being a leader in electrical infrastructure and systems, Eaton is a global leader in the production of hybrid power systems for trucks and buses, accumulating nearly 20 million road tested miles of service around the world. Eaton is the only company to offer hybrid electric as well as two hybrid hydraulic system technologies and the charging infrastructure for commercial and residential applications.
Companies such as FedEx, UPS, Coca-Cola Enterprises, PepsiCo and Wal-Mart are using delivery vehicles with Eaton hybrid systems. Work trucks with Eaton hybrid power are also in service at dozens of utility and telecom systems across North America, including Pepco, American Electric Power, Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, and Florida Power and Light. Benefits of the existing Eaton system include fuel economy improvement ranging from 30 to 70 percent, with similar percentages in emission reductions, extended brake life, and idle time reductions of up to 87 percent during work site operations.

I wasn’t overly optimistic when I suggested you should be providing the HEV components to automobile manufacturers for a goal of 8 million a year in America. You were a little pessimistic when you suggested it would take 10,000 units to make the technology profitable thus making it feasible. The Japanese have already done that. We only have two automobile manufacturers left in America you can sell your components to that will exceed your 10,000 unit projection – Ford and GM. Ford will probably do it next year with their fusion and mercury. Neither Ford nor GM has plans to come out with a diesel version. You are the only provider of diesel components that can easily be adapted for automobiles. It won’t be long before Volkswagen introduces one. They have already introduced in America a diesel Volkswagen that gets approximately 53 miles to a gallon. It’s just a matter of time before they introduce an electric hybrid version that will obviously exceed that.

Toyota and Honda both have NG (natural gas) cars. Both can provide NG connections to residential homes. I have already suggested you should consider hybrid electric NG components for the Heavy Duty propulsion trucking industry. You should consider electric NG automobile hybrid components. In addition, I’m suggesting you work with California and the EPA with legislation that will ease the use of NG delivery components that can easily be retrofitted to residential homes. With the smart meter it would be easy for government to tax the NG used for automobiles. If the home doesn’t have a smart meter then adding a second meter for NG will still allow the government to tax. Everyone in California has easy access to NG - Talk to Arnold.

I’m sure your vehicle components hierarchy has already made these suggestions to you. If not it might be something to consider. Change it good. Who would have ever thought 17 years ago EATON would have been in the electrical distribution business.

I saw references to hybrid EVs back in the '60's, and worked on early solar auto designs in the mid-'70's. Limitations then were in controls and computing; i.e., software. The ideal battery still is elusive, fabricated from nonexistium, nonobtainium, and tooexpensium.
The concept of power conditioning for solar systems dates back to the space program in the '60's as well. There is a brief discussion on my blog on that topic. One may generate power and use it simultaneously with charging a battery, powering peripherals, driving the load, and adapting to variations in input sources of power.

I'm only pointing out that the principles of HEV operation were already in the public domain in the '60's. Multiple power sources and energy conversion systems for transportation systems, including ships, aircraft, trains, and even spacecraft were either proposed or in use before 1970.
Automotive R$D was rarely protected because the D3 used "trade secrets" for much of their hardware.

We both know how old the flywheel is, but I wondered whether you had built any back in the day -- my experience with them was at NASA and earlier as a consultant, and of course at school studying engine design in the '60's.

Did you receive royalties?

Your patent was issued with many claims, a good sign of what is known as a "fundamental patent". These are quite rare, especially in automotive technology. I commend you for that achievement. Only one of my 5 patents is fundamental, but it is an internet patent coupled with a real time information sharing system for aviation. The earlier 4 were military applications, but one was used as the basis for the modern dental drill and another for the instant-on heating or cooling systems in autos and trucks. Neither was intended for those purposes, but that's how they were used. All 5 were US government owned, so I received no royalties.
