Aerovironment eat your heart out....
Yesterday (11/19/09), the
Solar Impulse HB-SIA taxied down the runway powered by its own engines.
At the controls of the HB-SIA, Solar Impulse test pilot Markus Scherdel cautiously took to the runway under the watchful eyes of the whole team, with computers monitoring the plane’s behaviour online via the embedded telemetric devices.
This inaugural day out on the runway allowed low-speed runway testing with the prototype going through a series of acc…

Harvesting solar power from space through orbiting solar farms sounds extremely interesting. Mitsubishi Electric Corp., a manufacturer of solar panels, has decided to join an AUD $25 billion Japanese project to construct a massive solar farm in space within three decades.
Japan has already started working towards achieving its goal by developing a technology for 1-gigawatt solar farm, which would include four square kilometers of solar panels that will be stationed 36,000 kilometers above the e…

Hundreds of private e-mails and documents hacked from a computer server at a British university are causing a stir among global warming skeptics, who say they show that climate scientists conspired to overstate the case for a human influence on climate change.
The e-mails, attributed to prominent American and British climate researchers, include discussions of scientific data and whether it should be released, exchanges about how best to combat the arguments of skeptics, and casual comments — i…

Over the summer Vectrix went into bankruptcy announcing that their assets would be purchased by "New Vectrix". Vectrix made the first commercial highway speed electric motorcycle and delivered their first motorcycles in 2007. However they never had enough sales to keep the company going, ran out of money, and went into bankruptcy. It's now known that GP Batteries has bought New Vectrix and the Vectrix assets apparently with the intent to restart the company.…

Nat. Gas is at best an interim strategy with its own greenhouse gas sins. We need to be looking at an abundant present source to derive our petroleum substitutes from , it is called livestock manure if we incentivize the production of methane ( natural gas ) we can substantially decrease the cost of production of ethanol as the natural gas used in the refinement phase of ethanol production is the major factor holding the price of ethanol high enough to discourage expanded or increased usage. We…

Despite the favorable wind resource conditions the biggest hurdle faced by the wind industry in trying to increase the amount of wind development is the current state of transmission rules that create economic penalties for intermittent (interruptible) resources such as wind.
By firming the resource and providing capacity value, Compressed Air Energy Storage (“CAES”) may be able to mitigate many transmission related costs that are currently seen as onerous for wind development. The biggest inst…

I recently had my BMW converted to run on propane as well as gasoline. I pay $2.24 per gallon of propane and fill up at the same place where I fill the canister for my gas grill. The horsepower on the car increased slightly (propane is about 100 octane) and the gas mileage is about 93% of gasoline mileage. The car runs flawlessly and I am no longer sending my money to the Middle-East to fund Terrorism!! I also am having my home converted from oil to natural gas. I encourage others to do the same…

I have written my senators and my representative regarding Natural Gas, trying to raise awareness of the product and to get Natural Gas filling stations into the state so we can start driving CNG cars.
Without fail, all I get is chest thumping blather about how they are working so hard on solar and wind power projects. Well, that is good for electricity but not so effective for cars and trucks. They seem to lump all this "energy stuff" into one bucket and feel that they are doing enough by talk…

without personal contact with T Boone Pickens,,,his Natl gas in 18 wheelers is to displace fossil fuels and much polution of diesel engines; with nat;'l gas engines,,,for powering "all 18 wheelers"
this conversion,,,that must be mandated by dongress, as it requires a new nat'l gas engine in "all trucks" and that's big money for the new disign and new truck..
but,,,,,,the benefits are two fold,,,,,
a) displaces many, many barrels of oil that has make the diesel available for the trucks;;; and de…

A new analysis from Accenture, Betting on Science; Disruptive Technologies in Transport Fuels, identifies 12 technologies that have the potential to be gamechangers, disrupting fossil fuel demand and reversing course on the disastrous climate changing trajectory that we are on. And, the report says, they could do it within five years.
But rather than simply cheering on these exciting developments, Accenture goes a step further and does a complete an…

Norwegian electric car maker, Th!nk, has seen some rough financial patches as of late—having gone through a bankruptcy and restructuring—but they seem to be clawing their way back to relevance these days. With a long wait list and more demand for the Th!nk City than they can meet in Europe, think has once again turned their eyes on the U.S. market.

Army,
The holidays are coming up and that means there is an opportunity for us to keep the momentum building toward the adoption of the
NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1835 and S. 1408).
Members of Congress will be home for Thanksgiving week; and then will be home again for the Christmas/New Year holidays.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to e-mail, call, or drop in to your Member’s District O…

Nevadans Against Garbage needs financial help. And here is why: (please visit our blog for more information at:
www.nevadansagainstgarbage.com).
Humboldt County, NV has let a special use permit so Recology/NorCal can import 8,000,000 pounds of California garbage a day for 95 years, into a landfill they want to construct west of Winnemucca, NV, Instead of embracing alternative green energy industries into the county. Wind energy would be a viabl…
