Right now Florida Utilities are in the process of lobbying for a virtual exclusivity of power generation to insure their future income. Yes they have had focus groups asking them if the participants would be willing to receive a couple extra dollars a month for the priviledge of securing an easement upon their homes roof to place solar collectors, that they still will be charging the customer for the electricity generated thereon. The question is rental by continuing to pay exhorbitant utility bills like the rates presently imposed upon customers or ownership where you generally don't pay them a farthing. As a solar sales manager for a local construction company, there is alot you can do to bring people into the alternative energy fold, just through your everyday contacts and relating the energy players motives like the utilities. I know that we are friends, and you get email updates from me, however, I think this is so important, I am reaching out one at a time.

I AM CREATING A "100CLUB"... members that have faxed in 100 or more signed pledges. So many thousands of people signed onto this site and said they would do anything or everything to help. Here is your chance!

We have the mechanism to build our numbers, we need to use it. It is the easiest ask- Boone has done the hard work. All we need to do is hitch our wagon to his horse and plow to the finish. I have sent in 240 so far.

It comes down to.... DO WE HAVE THE FORTITUDE to really go the distance on this? . I hope so. We aren't asking folks to take up arms. But this IS OUR REVOLUTION. And we have a very small window to get it done. I would like your help.

MARTINEZ: “GANG OF 10” PROPOSAL IS WRONG FOR U.S.

September 12, 2008 - WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) today issued the following statement regarding the pending “Gang of 10” proposal that is expected to be brought up for consideration next week during the Senate’s debate on overhauling U.S. energy policy.

Senator Martinez said:

“I am for more domestic exploration. We need to drill for oil in ANWR and the OCS. We need to start taking advantage of the vast supplies of oil shale in the West. We need to do all of these things in conjunction with conservation and developing alternative energy supplies like nuclear, clean coal, bio fuels, and renewable resources.

“The ‘Gang of 10’ as it has been presented falls far short of meeting our nation’s energy needs and instead threatens to raise the price of fuel at a time when Americans are already paying record high prices. Worse yet, the proposal blocks states like Florida from determining their own fate as exploration is concerned. Florida in particular is harmed by this proposal because it walls off production except for in the most sensitive environmental and military training areas.

“The time for patchwork solutions is past. The time for political posturing is over. The American people are overwhelmed with the prices at the pump and they demand a comprehensive solution. The best alternative on the table right now is S. 3202, the Gas Price Reduction Act. S. 3202 is a balanced approach that will help lower fuel costs in the near term and give America the energy independence it needs.”

It also lists all the current manufacturers of cars and trucks which produce assembly line CNG vehicles. Honda makes a Civic and GM makes a Silverado truck in the US, however Ford ( and Ford owned Volvo)makes several moels in Europe, GM, Mercedes,Fiat, Citeron and VW also make cars in Europe) It is no big deal to make a car run on CNG, its primarily an issue of putting in the tank. An existing car will run on CNG and can be switched back and forth to gasoline with a switch. Ron

Do not know the cost of the Phill unit which can be hooked up to the gas line in your home (If you have NG). It will refill your tank at home overnight, but your range is limited to the distance one tank will go from your home until public refueling stations are put in. As for the convention, it couldn't be more convenient, it will be about 10 minutes from my house, and I just got a notice saying the earlybird signup discount has been extended to Sept 15, but we might be a little short on time to organize such an effort. I will bring it up at our govt affairs meeting next week. Ron

I am a realtor as well, (although more invoved in politics), and sit on the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Orlando Board. A base is needed to get CNG started. Maybe the Board of Realtors is a great place to start. We drive a lot of miles and since CNG costs have about a 40% savngs over gasoline the $2200 cost of a conversion would payback fairly quickly. It would also be great PR move for Realtors since it is far better for the environment than gasoline, plus we would be exposing it to a lot of people, and they could experience first hand how it works as we drive them around, plus our clout with the legislators would help to get legislation passed to facilitate getting public filling stations built.in the state and possibly even incentives for the cost of converting. Having run a campaign in a US Congressional race here in Florida, I know how a lot of the politics work and know many of the state legislators, party officials etc. Your thoughts. Ron

How frightening to think that we could be looking back and apologizing to our children that we chose not to get this done when we had the chance.

We need to do more than “preach to the choir”. Sharing ideas with each other is encouraging but that will not 1) increase our membership nor 2) influence public policy. If you know someone in the press or someone who blogs - get them to cover this. Write to your Congressman/woman. Ask those in the public eye to support this plan. Print downloadable flyers and put them in your car and/or business window.

YOU MAY FEEL INSIGNIFICANT
Individually, we each feel the same way, but together we will lay the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous and more secure America. Thanks again for joining us in this historical effort!
